Spain advanced to the semifinal round by beating the Netherlands in a 2-1 thriller in the quarterfinals. Mariona Caldentey scored a penalty kick in the 81st minute to put Spain up 1-0 before Stefanie ver der Gragt equalized for the Dutch in stoppage time.
Spain's Salma Paralluelo scored the game-winner in the 111th minute on a counterattack.
Sweden defeated Japan 2-1 in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals. Amanda Ilestedt and Filippa Angeldal to give them a 2-0 advantage before Honoka Hayashi cut the deficit in half with a goal in the 87th minute. Japan could not find an equalizer.
The winner advances to the World Cup final, where they will play the winner of the other semifinal matchup between Australia and England.
